KOCHI: After announcing earlier this year that students appearing for board exams had to compulsorily provide their Aadhaar number, the CBSE has clarified that providing Aadhaar number of students appearing for class X and XII exams will be optional and not mandatory. "Submission of list of candidates for students studying in class X/XII in the session 2015-16 has started.... These contain a column to enter Aadhaar number. The same is not mandatory but optional," said a corrigendum issued by CBSE Controller of Examinations, KK Choudhury on September 11. CBSE also clarified that Aadhaar number is not mandatory for class IX and XI students who register with CBSE to appear for the board exam next year.
|The Kerala government had made Aadhaar registration of students mandatory for issuing NOC to CBSE schools in the state but later withdrew the order. In Kerala, nearly 97% of the population has been enrolled under Aadhaar and 2.75 crore people have been given UID number.|
