NEC (News - Alert) recently announced that it has established a "NEC Biometrics Excellence Center" in Bangalore, India। The center has been established by NEC with an aim to accelerate the expansion of its global multimodal identification solutions and integrated security solutions business.

The company offers expertise in biometrics matching technologies. Since the 1970s, NEC has been conducting research in the field, and its superiority in the field has been proven by several accuracy tests conducted by the National Institute of Standards and Technology in the U.S.
NEC has its clients spread over more than 30 countries throughout the world. It has developed over 200 biometrics solutions, which are used by broad range of agencies worldwide. The NEC solutions are used by both government and private agencies in law enforcement, border control, civil identification and national election systems that require large scale, accurate and rapid biometrics matching.
NEC has made valuable contributions in many areas of biometrics and earned huge recognition from various government and private agencies.
Multimodal identification solutions
Identity management solutions utilize multiple biometrics identification technologies, including fingerprint, face, iris and others. The company seeks to boost the business of its Finger Print identification and Face recognition solutions through the formation of several excellence centers across the globe.
The company has informed the media that it is going to leverage its central competencies in engineering, geographic and technological expertise to drive the development of N-BEC.
For NEC, N-BEC is going to be a core engineering competency center. The center will be used for enhancing NEC's worldwide solution engineering capabilities in the expedited delivery of customized multimodal identity solutions.
Just three months back, NEC came up with its mid-term growth plan. The company set for itself rather a high target---NEC envisaged an increase in the company's public safety business to 100 billion yen and the establishment of N-BEC is regarded as one of the first key steps towards realizing this goal.
In the upcoming days, NEC will look forward to pursue an even ambitious goal by setting a target of 1 trillion yen in international sales and the company seeks to accomplish this through the establishment of NEC centers in five more regions.
