TIRUPATI: Kothapalyam, a village abutting the proposed Tirupati international airport, became the first in the country to submit the integrated details of its residents for use by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI). The village located in Renigunta Mandal of Chittoor district has been selected for the soft-launch of the pilot project that envisages generation of unique identity for every citizen in the form of a 12-digit AADHAAR number.
The randomly-generated number does not have any ‘intelligence' built into it, i.e., it does not carry the person's name, sex, caste or location.
Tamper-proof
Based on the age and residence proof made available through ration card or voter identity card, the fingerprint, iris and face image of a person will be captured through biometric system. Later, a ‘de-duplication process' will be taken up at the Central ID Repository (CIDR) in Bangalore, where duplication or data redundancy, if any, will be eliminated. “A letter bearing the unique number will be personally delivered to the residents through India Post and will be withdrawn by UIDAI if undelivered, which makes it a tamper-proof process,” says S. Padmaja, Assistant Director-General of UIDAI.
Data updation can be done by contacting the designated local agencies. Alternately, the UIDAI can be reached at the toll-free number 1800-180-1947 or help@uidai.gov.in . The project will be extended to Anantapur, Ranga Reddy, Hyderabad, Adilabad, East Godavari and Srikakulam districts, for which the State has been sanctioned Rs.25.22 crore.
