As many as 450 centers, each in Mysore and Tumkur, would be opened for the public for enrollment of their names to avail the numbers. Speaking to newspersons on the occasion, Principal Secretary E-Governace M N Vidyashankar said the first UID number was expected to be issued to the Chief Minister in a week time as he enrolled his name at the centre today.
He said the project would continue in Mysore and Tumkur until end of December this year. UIDAI was planning to distribute the 12 digit number to citizens in these two districts by using Bio-Metric system and D-duplicating system. This number could not be duplicated at any cost and would remain for one person. He said this number would be issued from the D-Duplication centre which was established in Bangalore for the entire country. Issuing of UID numbers would also commence in other 28 districts in the state from January 2011 until December, he added.
