Nearly 10,000 school teachers are slated to be roped in by the district admistratrion for the Unique Identification Number (UID) project in the district in spite of their complaining that students would suffer.

The UID project is to be rolled out from November 1 in Pune with a target deadline of March 2011 and the district administration is clear that they cannot leave out the teaching staff from the drive. "We will have the same number of teachers for the drive as we had during the census drive. The entire machinery will be roped in for the drive according to the directions of the state government," said resident deputy collector Anil Pawar.

General administration in-charge at the collectorate Seema Holkar said nearly 7,700 teachers from the rural areas were roped in for the census drive. "If we were only to look at talathis and the general staff the numbers would be very minimal. So teachers will be roped in to help out the agency nominated by the government," she said.
