MYSORE: M.N. Vidyashankar, Principal Secretary, e-Governance, inspected a few service centres of the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) here on Tuesday.
Accompanied by officers from the Mysore City Corporation (MCC), Mr. Vidyashankar visited the MysoreOne Centre on New Seshadri Iyer Road near the RMC.
Vasanthkumar Mysoremath, member of the Mysore Grahakara Parishat, who brought to his notice the problems faced by people at the UID enrolment centre at Dasara Exhibition Grounds and elsewhere, explained how many were procuring forms from nearby photocopying shops and creating an artificial shortage. Further, many were facing difficulties in filling up forms, especially the illiterate ones. Some people were charging up to Rs. 10 to fill up these forms for them.
The member told The Hindu that he had urged Mr. Vidyashankar to create helpdesks at the enrolment centres with volunteers from civil society or NGOs, Home Guards, Scouts, Guides, etc., so that people could be served at the earliest.
He said Mr. Vidyashankar held discussions with officials and stated that he would discuss the matter during his meeting with the Commissioner of the MCC and other officers. The MGP member said Mr. Vidyashankar had requested people to take the help of officials and to not entertain middlemen. “Mr. Vidyashankar contacted the officers and directed them to supply at least 10,000 forms immediately to the MysoreOne Centre,” the MGP member said.
Earlier, he delivered a special lecture on UID to mark the Legal Services Day at the JSS Law College here.
