Ranchi: Families living below the poverty line (BPL) will get Rs 100 as financial incentive to get each of their members enrolled for Aadhaar unique identification card in Jharkhand.
Director General of the Unique Identification Development Authority of India (UIDAI) Ram Sevak Sharma, who was here, recently, said that the token amount would be paid to encourage enrolment of BPL families in the State.
“The encouragement money will be paid directly in the bank account of Aadhaar card holders. This apart, the UIDAI is also contemplating giving some reasonable incentives to introducers, who are set to play a crucial role for identification of poor and illiterates,” added Sharma.
Aadhaar is a 12-digit unique number the UIDAI would dole out to each individual in five districts, where the project has been launched initially. The districts include Ranchi, Hazaribag, Lohardaga, Dhanbad and Deoghar.
Sharma, accompanied by two assistant director generals from the UIDAI headquarter, Awadhesh Kumar Pandey and Rajesh Bansal, also visited Tarup village of Ratu block of Ranchi for on the spot assessment of the project for enrolment of people for Aadhaar cards. Four enrolment centres have been set up at the village for the purpose.
The visiting officials also held meetings with the senior government officers and bank executives and enquired about the problems being faced by them in the execution of the project. Sharma told them to expedite work so as the project completes within the set deadline.
Jharkhand is one of the few States where issuance of cards began soon after the formal countrywide launch of the project last month. Empanelment of introducers has got underway in Jharkhand on September 24, five day before the launch of the programme in Maharashtra.
In Jharkhand, the rural development department, registrar department for the project, has planned to offer Unique identification cards to about 38 lakh MGNREGA workers and BPL people in the first phase. “Payment of wages to MGNREGA workers would be made through Aadhaar numbers,” said SK Satpati, Rural Development Secretary.
