KN Ananthanarayanan, a resident of Bank Colony in JP Nagar of Mysore, is one among the many Mysoreans to receive the Unique Identity (UID) number, under the project Aadhaar.

The number would be used primarily as the basis for efficient delivery of welfare services.

“I got enrolled under the UID when the drive started in Mysore October last. I recently received the Aadhaar card through post. Though we are yet to get clarity on its benefits, it makes me feel special as it offers me a unique identity,” he said.

The UID enrolment drive kick-started in Mysore and Tumkur districts in October last, where several residents have been enrolled in the project till now. Rajendra Kumar, nodal officer under the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), said that about 5 lakh residents have been enrolledand UID letters are beingdispatched through posts.

“The letter contains a 12-digit UID number along with their name, address, gender, and date of birth for each resident.

The letter is bar-coded and has reference numbers for further clarifications,” he said. Sources in the UIDAI further said that the distribution process has also begun in Tumkur and residents would be receiving their numbers soon
