UIDAI Commences ‘Aadhaar Governance Award’
 
UIDAI’S Initiative to Reward District Collectors/Deputy Commissioners with Innovative Approaches Towards Leveraging Aadhaar Project
Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has instituted an ‘Aadhaar Governance Award’. The award is instituted to acknowledge, recognise and reward the extraordinary and innovative work done by District Collectors/Deputy Commissioners in using the Aadhaar number to improve the service delivery in their respective districts for more transparent, efficient and effective governance.

Shri R S Sharma, Director General and Mission Director of the UIDAI said, “The Authority has started issuing Aadhaar numbers to the residents in partnership with Registrars across the country and its implementation has gained momentum. In order to recognise and reward the District Collectors for the exemplary and innovative work in the area of potential usage of Aadhaar number for various social sector schemes, we are instituting the Aadhaar Governance Award.”

He added, “It will also motivate the officials to improve service delivery to the intended beneficiary and make the administration of such schemes more transparent and efficient.”

The Unique Identification Implementation Committee (UIDIC), which is headed by the Chief Secretary in each State will nominate District Collectors/Deputy Commissioners from across the country to UIDAI. The nominees will have to submit a project report containing details on innovative aspects and effectiveness.

UIDAI will set up an Expert Evaluation Committee (EEC) to evaluate the project reports and give its recommendations to the Authority. The EEC will comprise of eminent people in the field of public administration, academics and technology.
