PUNE: The Union government will be rewarding municipal corporations which achieve their respective targets in enrolling citizens for the UID project and penalize those civic bodies which fail to achieve the set target.
Addressing a news conference here on Wednesday, Prakash Kadam, additional commissioner, Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation, said, "Municipal corporations which achieve 100 per cent results will receive Rs 50,000, while those achieving 75 per cent of their target, will get Rs 35,000. Municipal corporations which fail to reach the 75 per cent mark, will be penalized." The details are expected to be announced later.
Kadam said civic bodies have been directed to meet 20 per cent of their targets by June-end. The PCMC has been given a target of enrolling 2 lakh citizens under the project. It has enrolled only 16,000 citizens so far. The state government also plans to recommend municipal corporations which perform well for national awards. "The UID authority will give Rs 100 to every person from the below poverty line category for enrolling his/her name for the UID project. "
Pune municipal commissioner Mahesh Zagade, district collector Vikas Deshmukh and chief executive officer of Pune zilla parishad, Sanjeev Kumar, were present at a video conference held with Ratnakar Gaikwad, state chief secretary, on Thursday.
Kadam said the government spends Rs 5 for enrolling one person, out of which municipal corporations will get 25 paise per person. "Our common demand was that the government should provide more kits for speeding up the enrolment process. One kit includes a computer, and eye and finger print scanning machines. The PCMC has received 19 such kits, but it needs at least 55 kits," he said.
