1259 - AADHAR COMPULSORY TO GET GOVT. BENEFITS: DC

Mysore, May 2 (DV)- The last round of discussion is being held with regard to making it compulsory to insist Aadhar UID number or Enrollment ID (EID) issued at the time of registration for UID to get the benefit of Central or State Governments, said Dy Commissioner Harsha Gupta at a meeting held in this regard in his office on Apr. 28.

So, far 16.70 lakh people have registered for Aadhar in the district and the rest have to get their names registered by end of June.

Meanwhile, there are complaints from public and people's representatives that misuse of Government benefits is going on continuously. With this in view, the UID number or the EID is being made compulsory to avail the services, he said.

Aadhar UID number is a must to get all the Govt. benefits including Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme, to open bank account, to get phone connection  from BSNL or private agencies, to get the registration certificate or to renew it in the commercial Tax Department, to get commercial licence from Agricultural Marketing Committee and Gram Panchayats, gun licence, excise licence, to pay income tax and others. A final decision is being taken in this regard, he added.

With immediate effect, UID number is being made compulsory at RTO to get vehicle registration certificate, driving licence or any other benefit.

The issue regarding making UID number compulsory at MCC and MUDA for building construction, to apply for site, to get site related documents and others, is also being considered.

The UID number is also being insisted upon to get pay from the Govt. treasuries or to get any other benefits. This is also being made compulsory to buy cell phone SIM.

The matter with regard to extending this requirement to all factories in the district is being discussed with the industrial organisations and associations.

Action is being taken to insist their requirement in all RTCs of the district, the DC said.

This is a step in the right direction to provide benefit to eligible and prevent misuse, the DC said.

Additional DC Zaheera Naseem, Food and Civil Supplies Dy. Director Shivanna and other officers were present.
