PANAJI: Konkani Bhasha Mandal, the Bharatiya Bhasha Suraksha Manch and students of Goa University on Wednesday made a joint demand that information should be printed in Konkani language along with English and Marathi, on the Unique Identification Cards (UID Cards) to be provided under the central Aadhar Cards scheme.

A delegation led by the president of KBM, Mr Prashant Naik presented a related memorandum to the joint director of the directorate of planning, statistics and evaluation, Mr V B Saxena. The delegation brought to the notice of Mr Saxena that the application forms for these cards have been already printed in English and Marathi.

Mr Saxena informed the delegation that under the scheme government will give a 12-digit unique number to each citizen, which will be his or her identity.

"However, if cards are proposed under the scheme, in the future, we will also make use of Konkani language," he assured.
