Sixty-year-old Sudam Baburao Duduskar’s official identity is truly unique. His Unique Identity (UID) card displays his gender as ‘male’, but the photograph affixed on the card belongs to his wife. This is the first case of UID card error involving the mixing up of a photograph to surface in the Pimpale Gurav area under the jurisdiction of Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC).
The PCMC, which is the implementing authority, and the company managing the UID work are busy passing the buck. If this is how errors keep creeping into such government documents, it will be difficult for the public to find ‘aadhar’ in this system.
Duduskar, a retired sanitary inspector from Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), found that his UID card, issued to him last week has his wife’s photograph in place of his own. A closer look at the Aadhar card shows it bearing number 876144152476 and states his name and gender correctly.
Complaining about the UID staffers, Duduskar said he was disappointed at the manner in which the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) officials carried out the work. “They need to be educated on keying the right names, printing the precise photographs and correct information. My worry is that I will have to go through the procedure all over again.
It is a known fact people face many problems while getting corrections made on government documents. The UIDAI should exercise caution while issuing UID cards and ensure that they are flawless,” he said.
Duduskar added, “I want the correct UID card, but I don’t know how to go about getting the corrections done. I had given the correct bonafides to the authorities, but still they made this mistake and it is not my fault.”
Additional Commissioner Prakash Kadam said that this was the first such case of error in the state and it shouldn’t have happened. “The concerned person should get in touch with me and we will issue him a new card. We will investigate the cause behind the mistake.
Three companies are doing UID work in PCMC area — Tera Soft, Wipro and Mahaonline. Pimpale Gurav area is being looked after by Tera Soft and the mistake might have taken place at the operator level,” he said
Sagar Janaware, manager (operations), Wipro, and incharge of implementation of the UID project in Pimpale Gurav sector, said, “We have sent correct data and it seems that the UIDAI tech team has committed the mistake. We will take all necessary corrective measures in connection with this fault and will forward the details to authority for final correction.”
