1587 - UID applications pile up, no processing dates till Nov.- Deccan Chronicle

September 7, 2011 DC Bengaluru

With the Unique Identity Authority of India (UIDAI) beginning to issue Aadhaar numbers to Bengalureans from August 17 and the State government opening up many new centres for UID enrolment, the UID rush seems to have settled a bit, but the wait for appointments is still long.
Appointments have been given till the end of this year. Over 90 centres across the city are now issuing only limited number of forms as any fresh forms can be processed only after November. Over 3 lakh forms have been issued across Bengaluru, including 30,000 at the General Post Office (GPO). The GPO has limited the number of forms being issued to 100 per day as its dates for appointments for further procedure are booked till November 20 and.

Other centres have also limited the numbers based on the number of forms issued and dates booked so far. It requires at least 20 minutes to process a form and we can process less than 30 forms in a day. Therefore, most centres have decided to to issue only 60-70 forms a day. Considering the huge rush and long processing time at post offices, the State government opened many centres, including BangaloreOne centres, for Unique Identity Authority of India enrolment. This eased the pressure on post offices a bit, but any fresh forms that are issued will have to wait till the next year for processing. Apart from the 30 post offices, all BangaloreOne centres, community halls and educational institutions now are functioning as Aadhaar centres across the city. The second phase of issuing the Unique Identity Authority of India numbers in the city started on August 30.
