Unhappy with the pace of enrolment for Aadhaar number, the Delhi government on Friday directed agencies concerned to speed up the process and decided to penalise a private firm involved in recording bio-metric details of the residents.
Delhi revenue minister A.K. Walia directed divisional commissioner Dharmender and deputy commissioners (revenue) of all nine districts to speed up the enrolment process, saying the process must be completed at the earliest.
Mr Walia instructed the divisional commissioner to forfeit security deposit of M/s Tera Soft for “dismal performance”.
The firm was tasked to record bio-metric data of residents in east and south districts.
These two districts were found at the bottom of the list as far as percentage of enrolment is concerned.
Out of city’s estimated population of 1,67,53,235, enrolment of only 45,57,458 (27 per cent) people have been completed for issuance of Aadhaar number so far. Aadhaar numbers have been generated in respect of 9,53,064 persons, officials said.
Saying that government would not hesitate to take stern action against anyone found wanting in performing duties, the minister also issued direction to issue warning to M/s Strategic for its “unsatisfactory performance”.
