1763 - Turn away residents and face the music: UIDAI tells agencies - Hindustan Times

Enrolment agencies, registering residents for Unique Identification Number (UID), will have to face action if they turn away a person over unreadable fingerprints.

On October 26, HT had highlighted the plight of senior citizens, who were being turned away from UID centres due to poor quality fingerprints. The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has directed all enrolment agencies to entertain all residents, irrespective of age and exceptions in biometrics.

“Under Aadhaar, there is no provision to turn away residents, who come to get themselves enrolled, and the quality of their biometrics can’t be decided by the operators on their own. A violation will attract action,” Sujata Chaturvedi, deputy director general of UIDAI, said in a letter to HT. Those, who have been refused enrolment, can report the matter on toll-free number 1800 180 1947 or email at help@uidai.gov.in.
