Dharwad: "Aadhaar is not only a foundation of unique identification of residents of India, but also the sheet anchor for all the services and facilities, a resident of India is entitled to get from the government said deputy director general 'Aadhaar' UIDAI regional office (Bangalore) Ashok Dalwai.
Delivering a special lecture on 'Aadhaar and Biometrics' under the auspices of Morgan Club of the department of applied genetics at the Karnataka University Dharwad, Dalwai explained the rationale behind the origin of Aadhaar and the need to provide unique identity to each and every resident of India covering the entire population of 121 crore.

With the help of Aadhaar card, the poorest of the poor in India can avail all the benefits provided by the government without the interference of intermediaries and without any misuse, he asserted.
He also showed how Aadhaar based unique identity is made robust, reusable, pan Indian, non-transferable and permanent with the help of a combination of different biometric parameters which are unique to every individual viz., face photograph, fingerprints and iris.
Dean, faculty of science and technology S C Puranik highlighted the importance of controlling the population growth in India so that all the schemes of the government will reach the needy .
Coordinator of the department of applied genetics Pramod Gai said, DNA of an individual is the most unique and extremely robust Biometrics which is intrinsically digital and unchangeable throughout life of an individual and even after death. Since there are some issues associated with the use of DNA as biometrics viz., health issues, ethical issues, privacy etc it has not been used as a component of biometrics.
