Chandigarh: In an attempt to curb fraudulent activities in the process of allotment of flats under the rehabilitation scheme, the government has made it mandatory for all the people covered under the scheme to have the UID card.

This will help them keep a national record of all the flats that have been allotted and hence make sure that any person who has been allotted a flat doesn’t get another one anywhere in India, said Satya Gopal, home secretary, CHB.

The government has built 10,000 one room flats in Dhanas, Palsora and Ramdarbar and these flats will be allotted to the people within one year. After, which the government plans to build another 10,000 flats.

The state conducted a bio-metric survey for the purpose and only those people who have been surveyed will get flats.

Under the scheme, the government has already allotted many flats and plots to the people in the area but most of the people sell these flats which is illegal.

Now, the government has decided not to give the ownership of the flat to the people rather allot these flats for rent. If anyone tries to sell or give the flat on rent then their allotment will be cancelled.

The government has also decided to cancel the allotment of the people who fail to pay the rent.
