The Maharashtra government has suspended Accenture from its panel of five consulting firms constituted to oversee roll out of the Unique Identification (UID) project. In a letter to the company from Nagpur, general administration department (IT) under secretary Dr Santosh Bhogle said the government had on November 26, 27 and December 12 brought to the notice of the company its poor performance but failed to see any improvement thereafter.

The letter stated that the principal consultant for UID Project remained absent for two weeks without any communication or notice. The government termed this "totally unprofessional" and said that it conveyed lack of commitment towards the project. "Even after repeated attempts to sensitise your organisation towards sub-standard work, we do not see any improvement," the letter stated.  It conveyed that  Accenture was being temporarily suspended from the panel of five consulting firms.
"The government has asked the firm to take necessary steps to improve management supervision... failing which we will be constrained to issue a blacklisting order," the letter warned.
