Process of issuing smart cards under NPR begins
This will be done on the lines of the UID project
Deputy Commissioner Darpan Jain launched the process of
issuing smart cards under the National Population Register (NPR) at
Dummvad village in Kalghatagi taluk on Monday.
Under
this programme, the smart cards will be issued to the members of each
family on the lines of the Aadhaar project.
Speaking
on the occasion, Mr. Jain stated that census workers had visited the
houses and collected data as part of Census 2011 and recorded the
photographs, fingerprints, and retinas of citizens above five years of
age for registration.
Mr. Jain said the registration
would be done after receiving the census receipt and application, and
government employees would supervise this work. Additional names could
also be registered, and applications would be distributed door to door.
All information related to the registration would be
confidential and citizens should have the smart cards, which would help
them to avail themselves of government facilities. The programme would
be conducted across the district in phases, Mr. Jain added.
Dharwad Zilla Panchayat member Kasturi Shantaram Dharwad,
Kalghatgi Taluk Panchayat president Guru Goolappa Narendra and others
were present at the function.
Where it's happening
A release from Kalghatgi tahsildar Vijayakumar Honakeri
stated that the registration process under the NPR had already begun in
Dummvad, Dasanoor and Devalingakoppa villages, and it would continue
till May 23. Registration would be held on May 24 at Basavarshi Koppa
and Kennayakana Koppa; between May 25 and 29 in G. Basavanakoppa and
Neersagar and between May 26 and 29 in Jammihal and Gambhyapur villages.
Registration would be done from 9.30 a.m. to 5 p.m. in all the places,
the release said.
Documents needed
Family members have to bring with them the NPR
acknowledgment receipt issued during the census, and any one of
following documents as identity proof: ration card, election photo
identity Card (EPIC), MNREGA job card, driving licence, PAN card,
passport, identity card issued under social security schemes, LPG
number, Aadhaar card or acknowledgment receipt, the release said.
