Hyderabad: The state government on Friday expressed its inability to implement by February 15, the rule requiring subsidised gas cylinders to be provided only to those with Aadh-aar cards, in Hyderabad and Rangareddy districts. Oil marketing companies (OMCs) had recently announced this rule.

The government has sought extension of the deadline on implementing the Aadhaar-linked supply of LPG cylinders on the grounds that the Aadhaar enrolment process is still in progress in these two districts and it needs some time to complete the task.

Minister for civil supplies D. Sridhar Babu has written a letter to Union petroleum minister Veerappa Moily stating that the state government cannot implement the rule from February 15 under these conditions.

Mr Sridhar Babu brou-ght to the notice of Mr Moily that large numbers of domestic LPG consumers in Hyderabad and Rangareddy districts are concerned and shocked

at the decision of the OMCs to make Aadhaar mandatory to supply subsidised cylinders from February 15.

Aadhaar  confusion prevails

Minister for civil supplies D. Sridhar Babu in a letter addressed to Union petroleum minister Veerappa Moily, said that a large number of people are yet to receive Aadhaar cards, hence, the rule requiring subsidised gas cylinders to be provided only to those with Aadhaar cards, should only be implemented after a 100 per cent enrollment is achieved.

Confusion prevails over the submission of Aadhaar details to LPG distribution agencies. While some agencies are asking consumers to open fresh accounts, others are asking them to link their existing bank account number to the Aadhaar number.

“There is no need to open a fresh account. Existing account numbers can be submitted. Accounts in all nationalised and scheduled banks are valid,” said M.V.S. Rami Reddy, deputy DG, UIDAI.
