Visakhapatnam: Joint collector Pravin Kumar said Aadhaar card is not mandatory for LPG consumers. He also said they had not received any communication from the Government regarding the issue.
Addressing at a meeting with LPG dealers and representatives of companies he appealed them to propagate the message widely through media, cable network, ration shops and also at prominent places. There was no such communication to the district administration that various welfare/government programmes have been linked to the Aadhaar Card, he said.
There were apprehensions among general public and it was the responsibility of the companies and gas agencies to educate them. He directed the HPCL to stop forwarding messages to consumers requesting them for submitting details of Aadhaar card.
He also requested various companies and dealers not to mount pressure on the consumers for providing Know Your Customer forms.
Around 12 lakh Aadhaar cards have to be issued and there would be no question of making the details compulsory till the process was completed, he said.
