RANCHI: The sadar hospital authorities are finding it difficult to tackle the huge crowd on the premises for enrollment of Aadhaar card facility.

Arrangements were made exclusively for the pregnant women but the situation went beyond control as other people too jostled with the would-be mothers and their attendants. The Aadhaar scheme is a big relief for the pregnant women from poor economic background. They can avail the benefits during delivery and post-delivery period.

"Apart from pregnant women other people too have lined up creating an unnecessary rush. We are standing here since morning and it is becoming difficult. So I have made my family members take turn and stand. Most of the women are doing the same," said six-months-pregnant Sangeeta Hemron. "The scheme will be of great help to us as we can't afford to go to private hospitals," she added.

"I came here for my regular check-ups and heard that enrollment for the Aadhaar card was being done here. The doctors told me of its benefits especially in the health sector," said a tired Guashar Sultan, four months' pregnant.

Sadar hospital made arrangements keeping in mind the pregnant women, said D K Singh, civil surgeon, Sadar hospital. "The main objective is to cover these pregnant women under the Aadhaar card scheme. They need to submit their bank accounts details while registering. Other people too can enroll here, but preference is for the pregnant women in this hospital," said Singh.

The beneficiaries are supposed to get cash benefit in health schemes like Janani Suraksha Yojana through aadhaar cards. Tuesday's programme is part of the pilot project in four districts of the state, viz. Ranchi, Saraikela, Hazaribagh and Ramgarh. It kick-started on January. From April this will start in rest of the districts.
