Noida: Unique Identification cards or Aadhar cards were made compulsory by the Delhi government to access any government service. However, Noida being the business hub situated very close to Delhi was not lucky enough as residents are yet to enroll themselves for these cards.
Nandan Nilekani, Chairman of the UIDAI, planned to establish uniqueness of individual and wanted to document each and every resident of India through Aadhar cards. But, since its inception in 2010, things have gone haywire as hardly any UID camp has been conducted in Noida.

Nearly one-and-a-half years back, an Aadhaar Enrollment centre was inaugurated at Jaipuria Plaza at Sector 26, Noida. The agency carrying out the project was Karvy Data Management Services Limited and apart from that Noida head post office was carrying out the work. The residents of Noida got an opportunity to get their unique ID made in their neighbourhood with the inauguration of the Aadhaar centre by the then district magistrate Hridyesh Kumar. But, the centre was functional only for two to three months and the enrolment work was put on hold due to lack of funds. While few residents managed to get their UID cards, majority of the people in Noida are struggling to get their cards.
In Sector 31, around 30 to 40 residents received their cards but remaining ones haven't even enrolled themselves. Besides, almost 100 to 150 residents had applied from Sector 26, but the people to receive their cards were negligible. "If they would have involved the RWA for the process, we would have mobilised and urged the residents to do so as we are in constant interaction with them. We hope when the process starts again, the RWA is approached for help," said Manoj Tiwari, treasurer of Sector 26 RWA. An enrolment camp was organised in Sector 14 when the initiative kick started.
"More than 100 people enrolled themselves, but only a handful of them received their cards. Soon after that, the work was put on hold," said KK Mathur, RWA of Sector 14 said. From August 2011 till mid-February 2012, only 6,150 enrolments have taken place in Noida. After this, no camps have been conducted. However, residents who want to enrol themselves for Aadhar, residents can go to any nearest centre in Delhi.
Meanwhile, City Magistrate of Noida Pushp Raj Singh said, "The enrolment is expected to begin from May this year. Residents of Noida can get the list of enrolment centres from the local newspapers or from any Noida local public source." Residents also complain that contacting UIDAI customer care for Aadhar card on their toll-free number 1800-180-1947 is a futile exercise. However, you can mail your request or suggestion on help@uidai.gov.in or webadmin-uidai@nic.in.
