Social welfare department would soon link Aadhaar cards to payment of post-matric scholarships to SC, ST, BC, EBC, minority and differently-abled students.
Linking of students’ bank accounts with Aadhaar cards would facilitate effective disbursal of scholarships, social welfare minister P Satyanarayana has said.
Beneficiaries will have to give their impressions on the bio-metric instruments and get the amount remitted to their bank accounts online.
Satyanarayana said Rs 1,000 crore would be released for post-matric scholarships in a couple of days. Budget provisions for social welfare department had increased by Rs 1,445 crore over the previous year.
In case of post-matric scholarships, the allocations were increased from Rs 723.76 crore to Rs 1,248 crore in the present budget. Apart from introducing new scheme for pre-matric scholarhips - Rajeev Deewena, the budget for best available schools was increased from Rs 30 crore to Rs 53.45 crore. It was proposed to extend the scheme for day scholars (150 students per district), he said.
