Pioneering in e-governance, the state government with a view to improve public delivery system is in the process of creating a single database for the residents of the state. Karnataka Resident Data Hub (KRDH), the repository of the Unique Identification data (UID) of all the residents of Karnataka will be used by various departments to deliver services. It is currently being run on a pilot basis in Mysore, Tumkur and Dharwad districts.
“The idea is to create a single database for all public delivery services. The government has started the UID-based delivery of services through seeding of Aadhaar numbers into nearly 15 odd government services,” said CEO of the Centre for E-governance Dr D S Ravindran.
The information available with various departments also can be linked here. They database can also plug in the duplications in Aadhar cards, if any, and would eliminate linking a card to different beneficiaries enabling the government to check pilferage in the system, he said.
Social Welfare Department, Education Department and Health Department are already using to deliver the Social Security Pension, SC/ ST scholarships and for National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme.
With multiple IDs being issued by various departments, the government is trying to save time and effort. Karnataka Resident Data Hub will also enable collaboration and sharing of information among various departments.
Meanwhile, it is also said that the government has saved over `16,000 crore through e-procurement process created in 2007. According to the latest medium term fiscal plan 2013-17, the e-procurement scheme has increased the bidder participation by two to five times.
