HYDERABAD: Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) chairman Nandan Nilekani said on Friday that the process of Aadhaar enrolment in the state would be completed in the next three to six months and that would make Andhra Pradesh the first state to achieve cent per cent Aadhaar enrolment.
During his visit to the city on Friday, Nilekani reviewed the Aadhaar enrolment process in the state with chief minister Kiran Kumar Reddy and also conducted a surprise check on the Khairatabad enrolment centre.
"As of now, we have issued Aadhaar cards to six crore people of AP. Nationally, we have done it for 45 crore people," he said. He said that by 2014, UIDAI aims to have 60 crore people enrolled for Aadhaar cards. According to him, as of now, UADAI has the capacity of generating 20 crore Aadhaar cards each year.
Asked about the inordinate delay in enrolment and various other issues including lack of delivery of the cards despite the enrolment, Nilekani said that there will be issues in any big process and that they are faced with a huge backlog. "We understand this and are doing everything to overcome this," he said.
He said one big challenge would be to get the last 10% population of the country enrolled for Aadhaar. "They may be in some remote areas. We have to find out where they are. Therefore, we have decided to cover each state on the basis of pin codes. We will analyse which pin code has the least enrolments and set up special enrolment camps in those areas," he added.
