UIDAI’S CLAIM OF 98% COVERAGE IS FAR FROM TRUTH: M.B. CHINNAPPA

Mysore, June 30- The claim of the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) that there was 98% Aadhar coverage in Mysore district is far from truth, said M.B. Chinnappa who retired as Lead Bank Manager in city yesterday.

Addressing media persons, he admitted that even he had not been issued an Aadhar card after six months after the roll out of the Aadhar-based Direct Cash Transfer scheme in the district which was launched in the district in January.

According to banks, seeding has been completed with accounts of 3.22 lakh of the 5.18 lakh LPG consumers in district, he said and added that 1.96 lakh accounts are yet to be seeded.

He also dismissed worries of subsidies not reaching the beneficiaries by saying that there was a three-month period to streamline the process after the launch tomorrow.

Stating that Lead Bank will despatch letters to LPG consumers in the district asking them to submit details of their bank accounts and LPG consumer numbers, he said that the bank had asked the oil companies to submit a list of LPG consumers to the bank.

He further said that accounts of 1.97 lakh consumers have already been mapped by the National Payment Authority.

Earlier, Chinnappa was accorded a warm send off by Deputy Commissioner Dr. Ramegowda, who presented a Mysore Peta and a shawl to him at a function at DC office.

The programme was organised by Centre for Rural Development & Innovative Technologies of India (Credit-i) in which its Managing Trustee Dr. M. P. Varsha, Treasurer M.R. Manjunath, office-bearers N. Sandesh Kumar, N. Sachidananda, MUDA Commissioner Dr. C.G. Betsurmath and others were present.

Meanwhile, K.N. Shivalingaiah will assume charge as Chief Manager of State Bank of Mysore, the Lead Bank in the district.

It is learnt that Shivalingaiah, who is currently undergoing training in Hyderabad, is expected to assume office tomorrow.
