P Rajeeve MP, member of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Finance, said since the Aadhaar project does not have any legislative backing, a staunch critic of the project, said the Aadhaar project is part of a grand design.

“The National Identification Authority of India Bill-2010 was rejected by the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Finance, headed by Yashwant Sinha, on the grounds of global experiences, lack of financial feasibility, technological deficiencies and, most importantly, from the perspective of civil liberty.

“The Congress-run state governments are showing a special interest in the project. The UPA is trying to make Aadhaar part and parcel of the Food Security Bill. The private company which is controlling the project will be the real beneficiary if the scheme is implemented,” he said. However, Chandy said the government would go ahead with the implementation of the Aadhaar project. “It will benefit all sections of society,” he said.
