NASHIK: The district administration on Monday allotted six kits to two schools in Nashik city to process the unique identity number - Aadhaar card - exclusively for schoolchildren and has asked parents to be patient on the matter.

"Every student will get the Adhaar number and the parents should not worry about it. We appeal to the parents to wait till the required time - five to seven months - till their wards get the numbers; the administration has now decided to install Aadhaar kits in city schools. The process of obtaining Aadhaar cards for children will now be carried out inside the schools itself," deputy collector, general administration, Nilesh Jadhav said.

The district administration has provided six kits - three each in K N Kela High school and St Xavier's High school - both in Nashik Road area. "The centres will process Aadhaar card requests of students of their respective schools and then move on to other schools. We will ask the education department to ensure that Aadhaar requests of no citizens except schoolchildren are processed through these centres," Jadhav said.
The administration said the wait for processing Aadhaar numbers would be very long, given the very few number of requests processed by every kit as per the procedures involved. "There would be a long wait for the students to get the numbers;
It could be months before all schoolchildren get their Aadhaar card requests processed. There is no need to rush to centres. Besides, we are also asking the education department to make sure that no school sets any kind of deadline for getting Aadhaar numbers for the students," Jadhav said.
The administration is further issuing a tender of 75 more kits. "Of these 75 kits, the administration is willing to give at least 12 kits to Nashik citywhich will aid in increasing the speed of processing Aadhaar requests. But it will take some time,
" he said. Of the total city population of 14.86 lakh as per the 2011 census, the process of applying for Aadhaar card has already been completed by 10.35 lakh citizens. "So far, the procedure for 78.86% of the population of the city has been completed," a senior Nashik municipal corporation official said.
