KOTTAYAM: Soon mobile Aadhaar enrolment units will reach out to the public on call. This will be a great relief for the bedridden and disabled people in the district.
However, the district Akshaya Centre is not sure when this could be commenced in a full-fledged way as Akshaya centres continue to be busy with the Aadhaar registartion work. "On "In most cases, the cooking gas connections are in their names. Many also avail pension. So it is necessary that they should also be enrolled," said Biju C Mathew, assistant district co-ordinator of Akshaya.
"The units have already started functioning on Sundays. We have asked panchayats to furnish details of such persons. Such people or their relatives can either contact the local body or can directly contact Akshaya Centres to avail this facility," he added. He said that 16, 52,772 unique identification numbers are ready in the district. "Around 80 % in the district have enrolled under National Population Register of 2011," he said.
Currently, enrolment is being done in 19 centres using 22 machines. Facilities have been arranged at all Akshaya centres for taking the copy of the Aadhaar card for those who have already enrolled but not received the card. There is also facility in these centres to help those who have lost the slip given while enrolment, he said.
