Kerala Construction Workers’ Trade Union Joint Action Council has called upon the Kerala Construction Workers’ Welfare Board to withdraw from the move to make Aadhaar card mandatory for the disbursal of the welfare pension.
Action council state convener S Venurajan, vice-chairmen Changa Vijayan, Manu Joseph, district convener G K Stelter and district chairman K Soman told a news conference that the move to make registering bank accounts with the Akshaya Kendra mandatory would not help the retired workers who draw a paltry sum as pension.
They pointed out that even the Supreme Court had made it clear that Aadhaar card should not be made manadatory for claiming welfare pension and other benefits from the government.
Raising various demands such as minimum pension worth Rs 2,000, disbursal of pension through money order for aged, the Joint Action Council will take out a march and stage a dharna in front of the ‘Thozhil Bhavan’ near PMG Junction here on October 18.
