GUWAHATI, November 14: A “Review Meeting–cum–Workshop on Aadhaar Applications” was conducted successfully by Regional Office, Unique Identification Authority of India, Guwahati on Tuesday in the conference hall of IHM, Borbari. The meeting was chaired by D Kumar, DDG i/c, RO, UIDAI, Guwahati. VS Bhaskar, Principal Secretary, Health & Family Welfare and Transport Department, Assam was the Chief Guest for the day. In his speech, Bhaskar emphasised the importance of Aadhaar number and its technological aspect.
He described UID project as first of its kind of innovative and massive scale government project where the officers and professionals from different backgrounds teamed up for its execution. The workshop was also attended by senior government officers from the North–Eastern States.
The objective of the workshop was sharing of knowledge amongst the participants about the different processes, challenges during implementation & its solution and the benefits of Direct Benefit Transfer initiated by the Indian government.
The basic focus of the workshop was on how Aadhaar platform helps service providers to authenticate identity of residents electronically, in a safe and quick manner, making service delivery more effective and efficient. Apart from this, core issues of enrolment, problems being faced by the enrolling agencies and solution for the same were also discussed during the workshop.
In the workshop, detailed hands–on session was held on ‘ Aadhaar Authentication Framework, Authentication Devices, Authentication Service Agency and User Agency Credentials, State Resident Data Hub, delivery of cash benefits of governmental welfare programmes through APB (Aadhaar Payment bridge) and AEPS (Aadhaar Enabled Payment service) at the door step of the beneficiaries through the chain of MICRO ATMs and Business Correspondents etc.
In case of the other NE States like Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Nagaland and Mizoram, Registrar General of India (RGI) will capture biometrics from the residents for generation of Aadhaar numbers and after that the Direct Benefit Transfer Scheme will be initiated by these States. Various technical sessions were conducted by the experts from UIDAI, HQ, Delhi and RO Guwahati. This was stated in a press release.
