HYDERABAD: Justice C V Nagarjuna Reddy of the AP high court on Thursday directed the state and the Centre to explain by Monday the reasons for harassing a student to produce an Aadhaar card to avail scholarship benefit.
Pagadala Nilotpal Basu, a student of TKR engineering college in Hyderabad, had moved the court with a plea that though he had enrolled for Aadhaar, it was not issued by the authorities so far. He wanted the authorities to consider the Aadhaar enrolment receipt as valid proof and grant him scholarship. It is not his fault, but that of the authorities who are delaying the issue of Aadhaar card, D L Pandu, counsel said. The judge directed principal secretary of social welfare wing, secretary of the central planning commission to furnish reasons for their actions. Case has been posted to Monday.
