Kiosk banking project will be launched in the district by month-end. The project is being executed in association with Akshaya centres. Over 170 centres will be opened in the district.
The kiosks will have facility to open bank accounts, deposit money and withdraw from accounts in several public and private sector banks.
Many of the kiosks will be set up in rural areas, according to district lead bank (Union Bank of India) manager K.R. Jayaprakash. “The software is ready and personnel are undergoing training,” he said.
The district had made good progress in facilitating direct benefit transfer through banks, he said. Account opening and linking it with Aadhaar (unique identification number) number for receiving LPG subsidy are progressing.
A total of 4.74 lakh consumers, accounting for 52 per cent, have linked their Aadhaar numbers with bank accounts so far.
Over 1,800 students were given educational loans totalling Rs. 57.29 crore during the three-month period from July to September.
Educational loans worth Rs.1206.40 crore have been disbursed during the year. The figures were released at the district-level review committee meeting of bankers held here recently.
