People who have missed enlisting themselves in the first or the ongoing second phase of Aadhaar biometric enrolment have another opportunity to do it. The Directorate of Census Operations of Odisha has decided to roll out Permanent Enrolment Centres (PEC) in block offices of eight districts to quicken the pace of Aadhaar enrolment in the State.
The special programme, which is scheduled to begin from January 25, will continue for four months in Cuttack, Puri, Khurda, Balangir, Balasore, Bhadrak, Sundargarh and Sonepur where the Census Directorate has approved establishment of PECs.
Collectors and Municipal chief in these districts have been instructed to facilitate and monitor the operation of PECs which will be block and municipal offices, Census Director Bishnupada Sethi said. Officers in each block have been asked to identify people who have missed out enrolment.
The special enrolment will be done in addition to the ongoing second phase. The State Government has sanctioned Rs 53.64 lakh towards implementation of the four-month programme.
The Electronics Corporation of India Limited (ECIL) will provide necessary equipment and manpower for operating the PECs.
The Census Directorate has targeted to cover 3.8 crore people in the bio-metric enrolment in different phases.
Meanwhile, confusion prevailed over the ongoing Aadhaar enrolment process in the Capital City as people made a beeline at the Census Director where enrolment forms were being distributed for the second round of enrolment. Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) is the nodal agency for the bio-metric enrolment centres.
The second round of biometric enrolment under BMC will also begin from January 22 and continue till February 15. The biometric data will be collected in the designated centres in Wards 10, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25 and 26. “All those who have previously filled up the forms and enrolled themselves can visit the designated centres for bio-metric data submission. Those who have missed out in the first phase can fill in the forms and wait for the January 25 special drive to begin,” a senior officer of Census Directorate, Chittaranjan Mohanty said.
