BANGALORE: Former UIDAI chief and Congress candidate from Bangalore South Lok Sabha constitutency Nandan Nilekani has filed a complaint with the Election Commission on Tuesday. His complaint, a copy of which has also been submitted to the Press Council of India, pertains to alleged lies and omissions that are being spread by vested interest groups and by BJP candidate from the same constituency Ananth Kumar.

Nandan has alleged that Ananth Kumar has been trying to gain mileage, by abusing a government programme, Aadhaar. "He asked one question on Aadhaar in the entire time he was in Parliament," Nandan Nilekani said. "Why this sudden concern? Just a few months ago, he was advertising himself on Aadhaar enrolment banners in Bengaluru South. Once I entered politics, however, he began to attack the programme. He is part of the pro-corruption, anti-development forces who are trying to discredit a powerful anti-corruption effort, one that will empower ordinary citizens across the country."

Nandan Nilekani pointed out that the UIDAI never said that the number was mandatory. "This is another falsehood that my opponent is spreading. Rather some government agencies may decide to make the number mandatory to remove leakages and fraud in their systems."
