Srinagar, Mar 29: Jammu and Kashmir’s first and only UIDAI empanelled IT company, Comtech Info Solutions, has enrolled over 20 lakh state residents for Aadhaar.
Sheikh Imtiaz Ahmad, CEO, Comtech Info Solutions said the company is working in 17 districts in J&K for Aadhaar card generation in collaboration with ECIL Hyderabad and Registrar General of India.
According to Ahmad the company has enrolled over 20 lakh residents in the state for Aadhaar. Comtech Info Solutions is the first J&K-based company, which has been the project of producing Aadhaar Cards (National Population Register Smart Cards) on behalf of the government of India for the residents of the state.
Set up in early 1997 as a computer training centre at Regal Lane here, Comtech pioneered Urdu typing in the Valley in collaboration with NCPUL. Later it started working on various e-governance projects. Ahmed, an engineering graduate who has also done MBA, is the brain behind the Info Solutions, which has expanded its network across the state.
“The IT group amid all the problems and difficulties has emerged as a pioneer company for e-governance projects providing employment to nearly 1000 IT professionals in J&K, UP and Bihar,” he said.
He said: “We are currently working on digitization of photo identity cards (electoral rolls), and PVC Cards.”
The company is organizing camps where camp supervisor and operators take biometrics of the person on the spot. “Normally six persons including five operators with 5 kits are made available at a camp which runs for 3-4 days at a place and then is shifted to other location,” he said.
The data collected is uploaded and sent to ECIL Hyderabad for generating Aadhaar cards which are issued by Registrar General of India with a unique nationality number. “It reaches every home within 20 to 25 days through post,” he added.
The company has engaged about 1000 IT professionals in the state “who are currently working with us.”
Managing Director, Comtech Info Solution LTD, Ruksana Imtiaz said that company besides working in Jammu and Kashmir has also expanded its area of operation to other states like Bihar and Uttar Pradesh.
“In Uttar Pradesh we have been assigned two districts Bareilly and Pilbhit and in Bihar three districts to generate Aadhaar cards,” she said.
