Scrutiny of data collected from over 20 lakh households by the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) during the Intensive Household Survey has revealed that around 80,000 are duplicate entries.

After the survey, conducted as part of the exercise carried out across the State on August 19, the civic body announced having collected data pertaining to more than 20 lakh households in its jurisdiction, which was much higher than 15.24 lakh households identified in the 2011 census.

However, during data purification, the authorities have stumbled upon several duplicate entries and found that quite a few entries were made two or three times in the much-publicised exercise. “We have come across data that was entered more than once in 80,000 instances and had the same removed after a thorough verification,” said an official. For the purpose of purifying the data, the survey inputs were matched with Aadhaar details, which the official described as being the ‘most authentic data’ available.

On the day of the survey, 2,400 households had refused to provide details and GHMC officials estimate that the number of those who were not covered to be about one lakh. A GHMC senior official said that a new date would have to be announced by the State government to cover the remaining households.
Along with the digitisation of the household data, the civic body is trying to tabulate the information as per different parameters requested by other departments also. “The focus is on house number, property tax, water connection and commercial or residential dwelling and appropriate tabular forms have been prepared for classification,” the official added.
