More than 1 lakh people out of a population of 22 lakh are not covered under the Aadhaar scheme
District Collector Gaurav Uppal has directed district and mandal-level officials to give wide publicity to Aadhaar linkage to welfare schemes, so that those who are yet to get the cards could obtain them by approaching Aadhaar centres at the mandal headquarters concerned. Meanwhile, people are making a beeline for Aadhaar centres in all the 38 mandals, as the district administration has decided to release benefits of various schemes only on submission of copies of the cards.
Officials claimed that more than 1 lakh people out of a population of 22 lakh were not covered under the Aadhaar scheme despite repeated appeals.
Several senior citizens and migrants are yet to enrol themselves. The government recently enhanced pension for elderly persons from Rs. 200 to Rs. 1,000. The enhanced amount will be given only on submission of Aadhaar cards. It has forced many people to throng Aadhaar centres in the district.
Oil marketing companies are also insisting on Aadhaar-linked subsidy, as a result of which only customers enrolled under the scheme with their respective numbers seeded to bank accounts are given LPG subsidy. The companies have directed LPG dealers to give wide publicity to the new system.
