HYDERABAD: The ePDS (e-Public Distribution System) of the civil supplies department of Telangana state has been adjudged the best project at the eIndia 2014 eGovernance Awars 2014 held in Kerala.
The civil supplies department has been effectively utilising the ePDS online software developed by the National Informatics Centre (NIC) by using the state-of-art-technology to digitise the entire ration card data base and to allocate essential commodities to BPL families through fair price shops. The technology is used to seed the ration card data base with Aadhaar numbers to eliminate bogus, dead and duplicate cards/units with Aadhaar authentication.
Due to this, the department has been able to deactivate 11.71 lakh bogus cards from June to October 2014 and about 69.71 lakh bogus units have been deactivated. The department is able to save 24093 MTs of rice since October month.
The eGovernance awards will focus on the initiatives that will take India to the next level of efficiency in providing public services.
Elets eINDIA, India’s premier Information Communication Technology (ICT) event is being organised by the department of information technology, government of Kerala, and the department of science and technology at Kovalam, near Thiruvananthapuram, in Kerala.
At the summit the food & civil supplies department was honoured with eINDIA Government to Citizens (G2C) Project of the Year award.
Commissioner of civil supplies C Partha Sarathi, chief rationing officer, Hyderabad M Padma and technical director & HoD, Food Informatics Division, NIC, G Shivaji received the certificate on behalf of the civil supplies department at the investiture ceremony at eINDIA Governance Summit.
