GURGAON: With the district authorities having placed an order for an increase in the number of Aadhaar enrolment machines from 36 to 95 to cover the entire population of Gurgaon within six months, the city is geared for speedy Aadhaar enrolment.
Enrolment agencies have been directed by the authorities to make Aadhaar cards for children below six years of age as well. To cover office-goers, enrolment counters will be open till midnight in the office of the additional deputy commissioner.
Deputy director general Keshni Anand Arora of the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), who was in Gurgaon on Tuesday, reviewed the enrolment programme and said she has directed the agencies concerned to increase the number of machines to cover the remaining 27% of Gurgaon's population. She reviewed the schemes under the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) and said all the government schemes will be linked to Aadhaar from January 2015 onwards, and the benefeciaries of these schemes will get their subsidy directly deposited in their bank account through DBT.
It came to light that only 15% LPG users have linked their connection with the Aadhaar card. In government colleges (technical), around 76% students have Aadhaar card, of which 43.6% have linked it to their bank accounts.
Arora said all private colleges must encourage their students to get enrolled for Aadhaar. In government colleges, over 96% students have got Aadhaar cards, but only 12% of them have got their bank accounts linked with it.
