VIJAYAWADA: AP chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Wednesday asked district collectors to ensure 100% enrolment of Aadhaar in the state.

He made it clear that no welfare programme initiated by his government will be implemented without linking it to Aadhaar. Naidu, who had vehemently opposed linking Aadhaar to welfare programmes particularly LPG cylinders during the recent election campaign, on Wednesday observed that "Aadhaar is the new panacea for all ills'. He said ineligible beneficiaries of welfare schemes can be weeded out through Aadhaar.

Speaking at a pre-budget conference with district collectors here, Naidu said Aadhaar will help in preventing misuse of government funds by unscrupulous elements. He said the state has a budgetary deficit of Rs 16,000 crore and blamed the current financial crisis on the "unscientific" bifurcation of the state.

"We have many challenges to face in the coming days. District collectors should play an active role in carrying out the government agenda forward with a mission and serve people," he suggested. Stating that development and welfare of people are the two eyes of his government, Naidu said elimination of bogus and ineligible beneficiaries should be taken up on a priority basis.

He said the first phase of loan waiver scheme will be completed by January 12. He called on officials to pull up their socks and meet the pace with which his government has been moving ahead on development and welfare front.

He reiterated that his government is committed to development of all ports, including Machilipatnam, Kakinada and Nellore. Naidu said his government could implement 24x7 power supplies in the state within two months of coming to power due to efficient management of available power.

Meanwhile, Naidu on Wednesday directed SPs to focus on economic offences that took place in the last decade. He said that probe in such cases should benefit the victims. Reviewing law and order situation in the state with the SPs and other senior police officials here, Naidu alleged that administration was crippled during the previous regime with anti-social elements calling the shots.

He said SPs should take a close look at the past offences too while launching fight against economic offences in their respective districts. He, however, told the SPs that no innocent person should be harassed in the guise of investigation.

"Criminals can be arrested by tracking their Aadhaar number and visuals from CCTV cameras," he said. DGP Ramudu said police will soon launch 'i-click' and 'Raksha' mobile applications. Police are also planning to revive 'Mytri' concept of community policing.
