Since the launch of the Direct Benefit Transfer of LPG (DBTL) scheme, 7.41 crore liquefied petroleum gas customers out of 15.24 crore active consumers have become cash-transfer compliant, according to official data.
As on January 5, 2015, out of the total consumers who have joined the scheme, 5.23 crore are Aadhaar based, while 1.83 crore LPG customers’ Aadhaar numbers, though seeded with LPG distributors, are not reflected in their bank accounts.
The NDA government had restarted the scheme, also named PAHAL, in 54 districts in November 2014, and later implemented it across the country on January 1. The scheme, the largest cash transfer programme in the world, has witnessed 3.78 crore LPG customers joining and Rs 994 crore being transferred through 2.78 crore transactions since November 15.
