BENGALURU: Cab aggregators are looking at plugging into the Aadhaar platform to verify driver credentials to make their services safer.
"All the leading cab operators have reached out to us," said Srikanth Nadhamuni, CEO and co-founder of Khosla Labs, which provides solutions for Aadhaar-based biometric verification. Nadhamuni was head of technology at UIDAI, the government body that manages Aadhaar.
Speaking at a hackathon organized by Khosla Labs and Nasscom to develop Aadhaar apps Nadhamuni said Khosla Labs had proposed a workflow to cab companies to conduct biometric authentication. "We have told them they should first get the driver's address, photo and date of birth from Aadhaar and then plug it into their database. Now it's clean data, and they know who this guy is."
Meru Cabs has partnered with Khosla Labs to deploy an app that's integrated with a fingerprint scanner and an iris scanner that connects to the Aadhaar database. This can be used to verify a driver's details.
