GURGAON: The Haryana government has given all districts a deadline of June 30 to ensure 100% Aadhaar card enrolment but deputy commissioner T L Satyaprakash said the district needed more enrolment machines. He said that 15 of the new 300 machines to be given to Gurgaon would not suffice.

The government will be procuring 300 new enrolment machines by January 31 to complete the enrolment process within the five-month deadline.

The information technology department has also been asked to arrange for 300 more enrolment systems across the state by the end of the month to facilitate district administrations in achieving 100% enrolment. The move comes after chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar's meeting with all deputy commissioners in the state in December, where details from each district regarding Aadhaar enrolment were reviewed.

During scrutiny of the enrolment data submitted from each district, it was noted that none of the 21 districts in the state had achieved 100% enrolment.

According to the data from the district administration, Gurgaon has managed to achieve only 70% enrolment. Mewat and Palwal districts have recorded the lowest records so far, at 57% and 66%, respectively.

However, Satyaprakash said that according to the census data of 2011, all 15.14 lakh people in the district have already been enrolled for Aadhaar cards. But UIDAI's still show only a 73% enrolment from Gurgaon.

"Though we currently have about 40 enrolment machines through which about 2,000 persons are getting enrolled each day, the total district number still stands at 70%. We have already covered the total population going by the census data. I don't know the source which UIDAI is referring to for the total population of Gurgaon district," he said.

When contacted, a spokesperson from Gurgaon's UIDAI office said that the difference in percentage comes from the floating population in the district - mainly comprising migrants.
