Pune: The district administration has given a 10-day deadline to LPG customers to link their bank account. Those failing to register can lose their gas connections, stated a press release issued on Friday.
"The promotion of the scheme and need of linking bank account has been through various mediums including SMS, online and other sources. Still around 12 lakh customers are not linked. Citizens should link their accounts. Otherwise actions such as cutting the gas connections can be taken," stated the press release.
About 50 % LPG consumers in the city and rural parts of the district have linked their bank accounts. The process is necessary for direct transfer of LPG subsidy to customers' accounts. The government rolled out the direct transfer facility in the district from January 1.
Seeing the poor response to the registration process so far, the district administration has urged consumers to contact their banks and gas agencies at the earliest. The scheme is aimed at restricting black-marketing and illegal supply of LPG cylinders. The distributors have been stressing that the form is simple and self-explanatory. Every applicant should carry a cancelled cheque, bearing IFSC code of the bank. Customers will purchase cylinders at market rate and the subsidy amount will be transferred to their bank accounts.
