The Aadhaar enrolment procedure, which was plagued by several shortcomings, will have some reprieve with the launch of Permanent Aadhaar Enrolment Centres (PAEC), from the first week of February.

The PAECs will be additional feature of Atalji Janasnehi Kendras (aka Nada Kacheris) and Mysuru One centres in the city. Under the first phase of the state-wide programme, a total of 40 such centres will come up in the district. Of the 40, six will be at Mysuru One centres in the city, and the rest at rural areas of the district.

In the State, PAECs will come up at 777 Nada Kacheris, 58 Bengaluru Once centres and 38 Karnataka One centres in the first phase.

In the second phase, PAECs will be opened at 4,980 gram panchayats and 220 municipal offices, he said.

With PAECs, the government will be directly involved in the collection of biometric and demographic data of Aadhaar card holders, as against private agencies in the past. Enrolment progress

As per the 2011 census, the population of Mysuru district was 29.74 lakh. Aadhaar numbers have been generated for nearly 28 lakh people, which is 94.19 per cent of the population, he said. With PAECs, enrolment and Aadhaar number generation of the remaining 5.81 pc (about 1.4 lakh people) will be completed soon, he said.
