The registration of Defence pensioners in the city under the Jeevan Pramaan, an Aadhaar-based digital life certificate scheme was inaugurated at the Sainik Welfare Office at Pakkamudaiyanpet here on Friday.
A release said that Lieutenant General A.K. Chatterjee, PVSM, VSM, a war veteran registered at the camp with details of Aadhaar Card, Pension Payment Order, Bank Pension passbook and mobile number.
The aim of the camp is to empower the pensioner by providing an additional option to submit life certificate using the information technology at his/her convenience including the option of submitting from individual’s home through bio-reader enabled PC/Mobile.
With this initiative the pensioners’ requirement to physically present himself in front of the certification authority will become a thing of the past benefiting them and cutting down on unnecessary logistical hurdles.
Sources said that key details of the pensioner, including date, time and biometric information will be uploaded to a central database on real-time basis, ultimately enabling the Pension Disbursing Agency to access a Digital Life Certificate. This will conclusively establish that the pensioner was alive at the time of authentication.
The earlier requirement entailed that a pensioner either personally presents himself before the Pension Disbursing Agency, or submits a Life Certificate issued by authorities specified by the Central Pension Accounting Office (CPAO).
The camp will be held at the Sainik Welfare Office till February 5 during working hours.
Separate camps will be held at Karaikal, Mahe and Yanam to cater to defence pensioners from these regions.
