Latest DoPT reminder has listed 16 agencies where no employee logged into portal
The Defence Research and Development Organisation, the Engineer-in-Chief Branch of the Army, the National Investigation Agency and the Food Processing Industries Ministry are among the government agencies where, the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) has found, none of the employees registered with the biometric attendance system (BAS) had been logging into its portal.
The latest DoPT reminder to all the ministries and departments has listed 16 such organisations.
“In many offices, there is a large difference between the number of registered employees and the number of employees marking their attendance in the BAS. The secretaries of all ministries/departments have been requested to issue directions to all employees to mark their attendance in the BAS on a regular basis,” the DoPT order said.
As per the guidelines issued last November, the government has decided to use the Aadhar-enabled biometric attendance system in its offices nationwide. “All employees are, therefore, required to register themselves in the system and mark their attendance. Instructions already exist for dealing with cases of late attendance/unauthorised absence, which may be followed,” said the order.
The system has so far been installed in 149 major offices in Delhi. The portal, attendance.gov.in, has over 330 government bodies on its list. A couple of days ago, the website showed over 8,000 registered employees from 79 organisations not having marked their attendance on the portal, and of the 10,000-odd employees in 30 other departments, barely 60 had logged in.
Among the organisations clocking in impressive attendance on the portal were the Cabinet Secretariat (240 of 281 registered employees), the Women and Child Development Ministry (294 of 340), the Central Vigilance Commission (220 of 269), the Department of Consumer Affairs (195 of 246) and the Publication Division (191 of 239).
The data revealed that over 180 such government bodies had recorded good attendance on the BAS portal vis-à-vis the registered number of employees.
